We managed to have a nice chat with Jala and discover more about her experience at Occuity, here's what she had to say:
When did you get involved with Occuity? Why did you feel it was the right thing for you?
Towards the end of my Master's, I was searching for the ideal graduate role and came across Occuity’s page on LinkedIn. After doing some research into the company and its innovative products, I knew that I wanted to be part of Occuity. Throughout the recruitment process, I had the chance to speak with talented individuals from the HR and Engineering team. It felt right because I shared the same level of passion and engagement with technology as everyone else at Occuity. The company shares my values and aspirations, pushing me to go above and beyond.
What do you think about Occuity’s work so far?
I like Occuity’s collaborative culture and positive work environment. Even though the business embraces flexible working, I love coming into the light and airy office space as it boosts my motivation.
I believe that I came in at an extremely exciting time, as Occuity is about to launch its PM1 Pachymeter. The current products in Occuity’s pipeline have the potential to make a real impact on people's lives. The team has come a long way in such a short amount of time. It is very impressive!
What do you do and why is it important?
I started as a Junior Engineer in August 2022 - as part of the Design and Development team. Having studied Bioengineering at The University of Sheffield and specialising in medical devices and systems provides me with a variety of relevant skills.
I am currently working on some of the tests which fall under ‘V2 – Verification Testing’ for the PM1 device. I look forward to getting involved with the research and development of other devices as well, such as the glucose monitor and AX1 - Axiometer.
R&D is at the heart of innovation. It is essential for businesses, as it is how great ideas are translated into products that address a health need.
Which project/device most excites you and why?
I think all 3 of Occuity’s devices are equally as exciting. What I find the most fascinating, is the foundation on which these devices are created – the eye. Occuity’s approach to the diagnosis and monitoring of disease is unique and transformative.
What do you think will Occuity’s future look like?
I am positive that the future is bright for a forward-thinking company like Occuity and I am glad that I got the opportunity to get in on the ground floor!
