Diabetes & Myopia In the News

Updated: Jan 19, 2022

Like us, they recognise that the healthcare challenges we’re looking to tackle are increasingly serious problems.

What's more the national media are increasingly covering these issues. Our attention was recent drawn to two articles in the national press. Each story focused on a healthcare challenge that Occuity’s technology can help to fight.

Diabetes rates rise as America’s children are fatter than ever

The first article in The Times “Diabetes rates rise as America’s children fatter than ever” - sites three studies which clearly highlight the fact that Type 2 diabetes, is a growing problem, mostly associated to increasingly bad diets and sedentary lifestyles.

Our work to create a diabetes screening device is therefore clearly part of the solution to identify those with pre-diabetes and diabetes earlier and helping them make lifestyle changes.

Covid restrictions and screens linked to myopia in children, study shows

The second article also highlighted how current lifestyle trends have been affected by the COVID pandemic which has resulted in more screen time and less time outside for children – and has been linked to an increase in myopia (short sightedness) – representing a further opportunity for our technology.
